FTIR \u2013 Number 2 \u2013 Increasing our Horsepower<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Following the 2018 purchase of the MKS MultiGas Model 2030 FTIR GamAir has added a second FTIR in 2023.\u00a0 A MAX-IR FTIR gas analyzer (S\/N 00678) along with another MAX ASC-10-ST automated sample conditioner has been added to the stable.\u00a0 These new instruments were designed and manufactured by MAX Analytical Technologies which is a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific.\u00a0 One of the \u201cbeauties\u201d of the MAX-IR is <u>no liquid nitrogen<\/u> is required to operate this FTIR.\u00a0 Accompanying the MAX-IR is a new data acquisition software package.\u00a0 The MAX Acquisition software is used to configure an acquisition method specific to the site\u2019s analytical needs.\u00a0 This software provides all the end user control for data acquisition including starting, pausing, stopping as well as run-time concentration values from a single user interface.\u00a0 Once configured, the Acquisition Method has the capability to automatically control the operation of the MAX-IR and ASC-10-ST.<\/p>\n<p>The addition of a second FTIR expands GamAir\u2019s capabilities providing simultaneous inlet and\/or outlet testing on a multitude of pollution control devices or.\u00a0 We are poised to bring this technology and expertise to your facility.\u00a0 We are only a phone call away . . .<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2018 GamAir purchased the MKS MultiGas Model 2030 FTIR coupled with a MAX Analytical Technologies ASC-10-ST automated sampling conditioner and an AMP-Cherokee liquid nitrogen autofill system using a 30-liter Dewar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The combination of the MAX ASC-10-ST automated sampling conditioner and the liquid nitrogen autofill allows for remote 24\/7 continuous emissions monitoring.\u00a0 This combination perfectly aligns with remote short- or long-term process and emissions monitoring, with the capability of performing daily calibrations and spiking.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The MKS FTIR can be housed in one of our temperature controlled mobile laboratories or stationed onsite near the source.\u00a0 500 feet of heated Teflon or 100 feet of heated stainless steel sample line are available.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Some unique project related applications of FTIR sampling and analysis are briefly mentioned below.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner rt_row_style=&#8221;global-style&#8221; rt_bg_custom_alignment=&#8221;top&#8221;][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; rt_column_shadow=&#8221;&#8221; rt_bg_image_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; rt_bg_size=&#8221;auto auto&#8221; rt_bg_attachment=&#8221;scroll&#8221;][vc_column_text]<b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Process\/Engineering Studies<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Six identical sources were monitored for isobutane emissions.\u00a0 Real time process changes were implemented to show a reduction in<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0isobutane emissions as well as the aggregate amount that could potentially be sent to an air pollution control device.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Uncontrolled nitric oxide (NO) emissions were monitored over a continuous 36-hour period.\u00a0 Emissions ranged from 100 parts per million (ppm) to 3 percent (30,000 ppm).\u00a0 Conventional NO\/NOx analyzers do not have the capability of analyzing above 1 percent (10,000 ppm).\u00a0 The use of the FTIR allowed for real time monitoring thereby identifying where the maximum NO concentrations were being released from the process.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC) exiting side by side regenerative t<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hermal oxidizers RTO were continuously monitored from a vehicle shredding operation.\u00a0 The purpose of this test program was to look closer at the \u201cpop it\u201d valve changeover\/timing as it related to NMHC spiking.\u00a0 A great feature of the MKS software allows scans to be recorded as frequently as every 1 second.\u00a0 Another feature of the MKS software is the ability to go back and look for other compounds.\u00a0 In the case of this project further analysis of the IR spectrum s<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">howed other Freon compounds that were present in the RTO exhaust.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) fugitive emissions from an EPA Method 204 temporary total enclosure (TTE) were continuously measured to improve o<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n the capture efficiency of the coating device.\u00a0 These real time measurements allowed for a greater concentration of IPA to be captured thus increasing the concentration at the inlet to the control device.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;
